WOOD BURNER!

by alicebegg on March 16, 2011

So  a friend of mine Theo Bard – a very clever chap indeed! Puts on a night every monday at the Dalston Boys Club- as  a Western wonderer i’ve been hopeless at making it east for this paticular night, that and the guilt of venturing out for more fun on a Monday night!  but i tell you it is well worth it!

The boys club is an amazing venue – just large enough for a crowd of over 100 i’d say – seated and standing. A great pop up bar with more than one type of good cider! and most importantly a roaring fire! Oh and of coarse well chosen live music!!

Anyway you must must go- it’s a lot of fun! starts about 8.30/ 9ish,  its £3 and every monday night. xxx

stoke newington Cemetry- another realm

by alicebegg on March 1, 2011

Sunday afternoon- the air was damp and the sky a pigeon shade of grey, and the general feeling – drizzly!  but what a perfect afternoon to discover another realm that was stoke newington cemetry, I’ve heard about it for years, even lived up the road on church st for three- but never did I enter those giant brass gates! It was definatly a time for the old hipstomatic!

It’s extraudinary how its been left to get so over grown, it’s like a film set, there are little paths leading from a large derelict church in the middle, it’s a bit of a maze we did manage to circuit the same bit of ground about 4 times.

The Cemetry was built in the 18th century, back when Stoke newington was a village out in the countryside on the edge of london. It was one of the magnificent seven garden cemetries in the london area. Where it was quite fashionable to be burried.

I’ve always thought it weird that some where could be fashionable to be burried but it did seem to be the case in those days – for those of you that haven’t be it’s really amazing a well worth a trip. It’s now a nature reserve and covered in creatures!

A show at the old Aldwych station

by alicebegg on February 24, 2011

On Sat evening i made it to a brief show at the old Aldwych – (i know that’s not how you spell it) tube station -which is just round the corner from somerset house, A guy it turns out who was in the year above me at college called Christopher Raeburn. He does a mix of men and womens wear, mainly outer wear, some interesting printed Anoracks and some nicely detailed felt jackets- well it looked like felt. It was interesting anyway there’s a few pics, blurred again i’m afraid!

His website is www.christopherraeburn.co.uk

ooooooh blasted RAIN RAIN RAIN!!!

by alicebegg on February 19, 2011

What a bloody misserable Saturday morning it is- Events of the day so far have been hectic- i said i’d work in Niche today which is a lovely Antique furniture shop up in Kensal rise.

As I’m sure your all aware – It’s Fashion Week and the air is buzzing with manic preperation for various launch parties and shows, we’ve had endless calls about prop hire and apparently we charge to much – but they can all sod of on such a misserable day, the last thing i wont to be doing is heaving velvet sofas through the rain! My friend rang this morning just as i was leaving the flat and running very late! to see if i fancied coming to a few shows today! but no i’m stuck in the shop!! and ever so chilly- apparently according to Graham Norton who’s irratating voice is blaring out from radio 2 behind me- the rest of the country is covered in snow? Well i’d much prefer it to the RAIN!

But never fear i’m heading to a show this evening – so that’ll be fun- but as i only had a mear 3 mins to prepare an outfit- i wont be looking my best!!

Anyway enough of that! I know what will warm you all up- if your toes are feeling as cold and damp as mine- close your eyes and imagine your here……..

aaaahhh thats better- i can almost feel that hot sand between my toes!

Sorry i do think i must be sounding a little grizzly this morning!!
